1971 Corvette LS6 Is a Blue, Big Block-Powered Beauty
One of just 188 produced this particular model year, this 1971 Corvette LS6 is a fine example of its breed.
The words “big block” and “Corvette” go together like peanut butter and jelly, but not all big block Corvettes are the same. Earlier examples from the C2 generation were amazing, of course, but the later C3s provided less power than some small blocks from earlier models. This 1971 Corvette LS6 up for grabs at Bring a Trailer doesn’t fall in that category, however, as it’s one of the very last big power, big block-powered Corvettes to emerge from GM before things went south.
As one might have already gathered from its name, this 1971 Corvette LS6 is powered by a numbers-matching 454 cubic-inch LS6 V8 that was originally rated to produce 425 horsepower when new. That prodigious amount of power flows through an M21 four-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels via 3.08 gears, providing thrilling performance in a lightweight, classy-looking package. It’s also one of just 188 LS6 Corvettes produced in 1971, so it’s rare, to boot.
On the outside, this C3 looks simply amazing finished in Bridgehampton Blue paint, thanks to a full restoration that was completed back in 1992. The results of that work were good enough to earn this car plenty of coveted distinctions, including a Bloomington Gold Certified award, multiple Top Flight honors, and a feature in the July 1996 issue of Corvette Fever magazine.
Though it’s an older restoration that isn’t by any means perfect now, this ’71 Corvette still looks fantastic in our book. The paint and chrome make for an amazing combination when paired with the C3’s iconic lines, which are accented by a set of timeless 15-inch rally wheels with chrome rings and center caps, that are wrapped with F70-15 Goodyear white-letter tires. The black interior is equally fantastic, with amenities including a tilting and telescoping steering column, a rear window defroster, retractable shoulder belts, and a Delco AM/FM radio.
This 1971 Corvette LS6 is certainly a fine example of a rare breed, and it’s also historically significant given the fact that it’s one of the last high-powered big block Corvettes ever made. Unsurprisingly, it has also attracted a ton of attention at auction, where it figures to sell for big bucks once the hammer falls.
