This rare Chevrolet Corvette roadster will go under the gavel at Mecum’s Glendale, AZ, auction. The sale ends on March 19th.
The C1 Corvette is one of the most flamboyant classic sports cars of all time. The nameplate made its world debut in 1953. Its most widely recognized version sported a white-on-red paint job which was offset by a beige top. The car we have here is one of the rarest ‘Vettes from the early 1950s. This ’54 Corvette roadster is also one of the only four examples that came in this beautiful black paint scheme with a vibrant red interior from the factory.
We came across this particular 1954 Corvette C1 on Mecum Auctions’ official website which lists it as the main attraction. The car will be up for auction at Mecum’s Glendale, Arizona sale, which starts today and will end on March 19th. The beautiful sports car will hit the auction block with no reserve. According to Mecum Auctions’ estimate, it will fetch anywhere between $150,000 to $200,000.
For those unfamiliar with the production run of the C1 Corvette, Chevrolet only sold 183 examples of the nameplate in its first production year. The front-engine rear-wheel-drive roadster was available with a wide range of powerplant options, including a straight-six motor and several V8s.
Under the hood of this ‘54 Corvette Roadster, we find a straight-six motor. The powerplant hooks up to a two-speed Powerglide automatic gearbox.
In addition to a two-speed automatic transmission, customers could also select between a 3-speed and a 4-speed manual gearbox. In its factory tune, the 235 cubic-inch Blue Flame Six engine could churn out 155 HP of maximum power thanks to a new camshaft which Chevrolet introduced earlier that production year. The powertrain also retains its original side-draft Carter carburetors and chrome “bullet” air cleaners.
Furthermore, the car also gets chromed dual exhaust tips. To reduce the staining of the bodywork, the Golden Bowtie brand also extended the exhaust tips out of the bumperettes for this model year. This menacing roadster rides on a set of steel wheels, which flaunts a red paint scheme that matches the interior. The rims come complete with full spinner wheel covers and are wrapped in whitewall tires.
