Would You Pay Over MSRP for a New Corvette Z06, and if So, How Much?
While most people scoff at paying markups, there are some willing to dish out extra for a new Corvette Z06.
We live in some seriously strange times, where virtually every new car – not just the popular ones like the C8 Corvette – is selling for more than MSRP, on average. With supply low and demand high, this also means that used vehicles have been on fire as of late, routinely setting new records as people continue to prove willing to pay more than sticker price – even for used vehicles – for the privilege of scoring a new ride. And that had Corvette Forum member RBK wondering – how many people in the forums are actually willing to pay more than MSRP for a new Corvette Z06, and if so, how much more?
“Since some dealers are charging ‘market adjustments’ (legal, but frowned upon by GM), it seems that some of us are looking at prices in excess of $200,000. I wonder how many can afford a Corvette costing this much, or might choose a different car, or on principle, be unwilling to pay so much. Two examples, dealers in Las Vegas, want $50,000 over and in Florida, $100,000. Anyone else seeing this in their area? How much over MSRP are you willing/able to pay?”
As one might imagine, this topic tends to stir up some strong emotions, and as expected, a lot of RBK’s fellow members aren’t fans of paying over sticker for a new vehicle, no matter what. “To answer your question, zero over MSRP for me. Anything more and I’d move on,” said Glennm27. “25 cents. Let ’em sit on the lot,” added VITMNC8.
“$20k-ish, but I have a ‘high build’ and a ‘low build.’ I will reduce options dollar for dollar with any ADM,” said MDawg. “I’d go $20k over if I could get it right away and spec it myself,” added crazyotter. “That’s obviously not going to happen since dealers are already going $30k over just for the SR, so I’ll wait.”
Then there are those that somewhat call out the folks that plan to flip their new Z06, even if they manage to score one at MSRP. “Everyone of you that says you won’t pay over MSRP, please come back here when you sell your C8 or Z06, and let us know what you sold it for,” said VinnieZR1. “I’ll bet money, every single one of you will make a profit if the market is there. You guys are no different than the dealers. Carry on..”
So far, the vast majority of people who have commented on this thread aren’t willing to pay a markup of any sort for the chance to purchase a new Corvette Z06, but there are some that don’t mind ponying up for that opportunity, either. Thus, we’re curious to hear what you think, so head over here and tell us if you’d be willing to pay extra for this special new model, or if you’re willing to play the waiting game to avoid that extra outlay of cash!
