One of just 300 produced, this officially licensed 1953 Corvette pedal car is one cool collector’s item.

Many of us grew up collecting die-cast cars and riding around in Power Wheels versions of our dream rides, only to grow up and purchase the real thing. But even before motorized kid vehicles existed, there were pedal cars, many of which looked like exact clones of their full-size counterparts. Today, original pedal cars are collector’s items, some of them routinely selling for big bucks. However, that wasn’t really the case with this very cool 1953 Corvette pedal car that recently crossed the block at Bring a Trailer.

There is one big caveat worth mentioning in regards to this 1953 Corvette pedal car, however – it isn’t terribly old, as it was constructed back in 2003 as one of 300 produced by Pedal Car Factory of Mayville, New York. However, it is a real-deal commemorative model built under license from General Motors to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1953 Corvette, and this example – number 135 of those 300 – was on display at a Connecticut Chevrolet dealership until it was purchased by the seller.

The very realistic pedal car features a body made from plastic that’s finished in white – just like all ’53 Corvettes, along with a tubular metal frame and all the requisite trim and badging. It’s at truly cool looking piece, with details such as Corvette-style wheel covers and whitewall tires, polished trim, and even a faux windshield designed to look like the real thing, though it now doubles as a dashboard, holding the non-operational gauges and steering wheel.

The interior is quite simple, with just a single red seat and the aforementioned wheel and instrumentation. There’s also a hand brake just in case things get out of hand, as well as twin foot pedals, which are what’s used to propel the rear wheels and also brake by back-pedaling. A simple setup for sure, but an effective and obviously reliable one compared to any kind of motorized alternative.

Ultimately, this cool and rare pedal car netted $8,400 at auction, which is a considerable amount of money for such a machine, though also not a massive sum given what it is – a true Corvette collector’s item that anyone would love to have in their collection.
