The LMR twin-turbo Corvette cracks into the 8s with a pair of stellar runs that help the Texas shop reclaim its own record.

Late Model Restoration (LMR) – a speed shop located in Texas – has developed reputation for building some of the quickest and fastest Corvettes around over the past 15 years or so, and it also sells lots of go-fast goodies like its twin-turbo kit for the C8 Corvette. LMR has been working on developing that kit with its own drag racing C8 over the past couple of years, and it also just so happens to be one of the quickest in the world. Now, we can call it the quickest once again, even if it only holds the title temporarily, as the LMR twin-turbo C8 Corvette just retook that record again.

While running at the Texas Speed Syndicate Quick 30 at Houston Raceway Park recently, the LMR twin-turbo C8 Corvette managed to use all of its 1,500 horsepower to get progressively quicker. After posting a couple of solid runs –  a 9.18 at 153 mph and a 9.07 at 157 mph – the crew got down to business, ripping off an incredible 8.95-second pass at 159 mph to beat the previous record of 8.973, held by the folks at FuelTech.

The car had more in it, however, and on the very next run, LMR beat its own new world record with an 8.83-second pass at 160 mph, capping off one heck of a night. Even better, the LMR 1500 package that this particular car is running will soon be available to the general public, so they can build their own possible 8-second car that’s apparently still very much tame to drive on the street.

“It’s been a long journey, but we got there” said LMR owner Steven Fereday. “This car, I literally drive to and from work every day, and also as y’all saw, you can go to the drag strip and run 8s on the weekend. It’s a phenomenal package for a new car that they say is untunable (with the factory ECM). To have a car that you can’t fully tune with the stock computer to drive like stock, run like stock, and still put those kind of numbers up is super impressive to me, and now we have a solid package that we can sell to the end user that wants a car that they can just drive (during the week) and show off on the weekends.”
