In spite of its non-original drivetrain, this 1962 Corvette has a lot going for it after spending 50 years with the same family.

One-owner vehicles are a pretty common sight in the world of collector/sports cars, including the iconic Chevy Corvette. But with that particular model stretching back 70 years now, it isn’t terribly common to find C1s that have been with the same person since new. And that’s just part of what makes this 1962 Corvette up for grabs at Bring a Trailer a bit more special than most – it was acquired by the seller’s family back in 1972 and has remained in their possession ever since.

Unfortunately, the father that purchased this 1962 Corvette has since passed away, and it’s currently in the possession of his son, who is seemingly ready to pass it on to someone else. Whoever that person is will get a pretty special example of the final year of production for the first-gen Corvette, as this Roman Red beauty was refurbished back in the 2000s and looks no worse for wear today.

That work included returning the car to stock condition, as it had cutouts in the hood to make room for carb stacks at some point in its life, though those have now been filled. Otherwise, the exterior of this C1 is in excellent shape, with nice paint, shiny chrome, and covered steel wheels wrapped with whitewall tires. The bright red interior is equally immaculate, though the original Wonderbar radio has been replaced with a modern/vintage unit.

One thing this particular 1962 Corvette is missing is its original powerplant, as it’s now powered by a 350 V8 crate motor that’s been fitted with headers and an MSD ignition, along with a host of dress-up parts. It’s mated to a three-speed automatic transmission that’s also unoriginal to the car, though these items should give it a bit more performance than the stock setup, at least.

Thus far, bidders don’t seem to mind the non-original drivetrain present in this C1, as it’s faring quite well at auction. But then again, folks that care more about having a cool car with a cool history they can drive and enjoy don’t worry about such things, and this Corvette certainly looks like a fantastic machine otherwise.
