This C8 Corvette Z06 crash happened before the new model launched, though it doesn’t seem like it was the driver’s fault.
We’ve seen our fair share of wild, crazy, shocking, and downright heartbreaking crashes involving Corvettes over the years, with cars being flipped upside down, smashed into poles or other vehicles, or even cut in half. But such is life when you’re talking about a fast performance car – some folks just don’t respect the capabilities of their vehicles or choose to drive a bit too wild on public roads, which is typically what leads to these sorts of incidents. However, it’s unclear who was behind the wheel when this incident occurred – the very first C8 Corvette Z06 crash that we’ve seen – though it’s worth noting that customer deliveries haven’t even started yet.
As such, this C8 Corvette Z06 crash – a photo of which was shared to Instagram by a user who goes by zr1_m7 – likely happened with a GM employee or third-party tester behind the wheel, particularly since it took place in Bloomfield, Michigan. According to police, the car that struck it was trying to turn left from the opposite lane while traveling on W Maple Road, at which point it struck the driver’s side door of the Corvette Z06, causing significant damage.

In the single photo provided, we can clearly see some damage to the driver’s side door and rear wheel area, which has caused that particular wheel to become dislodged. As such, the car wasn’t able to drive away from the scene, and instead, had to be towed off once a truck arrived. It’s an ugly scene for sure, but this particular car is likely just a pre-production prototype that was destined for other things anyway, whether that be becoming spare parts or heading to the scrapper once its usable life was over.
Now, this poor Corvette Z06 has met an unfortunate early fate, but it has also become somewhat famous as a result, too. After all, we thought we’d have to wait a bit longer to see the very first C8 Corvette Z06 crash, but the blazingly-quick sports car didn’t even have to reach the hands of the public before that happened, it seems.
