ECS Twin Turbo C8 On Stock Fuel System Runs a 10.22 Quarter Mile
The ECS Twin Turbo C8 is faster than a C8 Z06 in the quarter mile and makes about 650 horsepower at the wheels on the stock fuel system.
The C8 Corvette is a quick car right out of Bowling Green. It can hit 60 mph in less than 3 seconds and can run the quarter mile in the low 11-second range. That is plenty of performance for most people. In fact, it is probably too much performance for most people. However, there are always some folks that need more speed and power. For those folks there is East Coast Supercharging (ECS). They are a performance shop that specializes in making Corvettes go faster. They are also a Corvette Forum vendor. They recently took their ECS twin turbo C8 Corvette to Atco Dragway. The car ran consistent mid 10 second passes with a best time of 10.22 at 131 mph. That is a full second quicker than a stock C8.
How do you get an engine to make more power? Give it more fuel and give it more air. The ECS twin turbo C8 that just blitzed the drag strip certainly provided the LT2 with more air thanks to a pair of turbo chargers. But the fuel system was untouched. No fuel pump upgrades, no meth injection, just the factory fuel system. And the system still makes about 700 horsepower at the crank and puts about 623 down to the wheels. That power allows the C8 Stingray to run the quarter mile about a half second faster than a C8 Z06. Impressive. A video recap of the day on the track was recently posted on the East Coast Supercharging YouTube channel.
ECS C8-700 Twin Turbo Package
ECS offers a couple different C8 twin turbo packages. There is the C8-650 and the C8-700. Most of the components are the same. However, the C8-700 includes a Dodson Superstock DCT Clutch Kit, and an electronic boost controller. It provides 6 psi compared to 4 psi in the C8-650 kit. The result is about 50 more horsepower. In either kit you get Precision 62/66 Mirror Image turbos, custom stainless steel turbo manifolds, stainless steel downpipes, twin 45mm wastegates, high flow cats, and more. The C8-650 kit retails for $24,995 and the C8-700 is $28,995. Not inexpensive, but you get a well-engineered kit made with high quality components that results in a seriously quick Corvette.
Out of the Box
The ECS twin turbo C8 with the C8-700 package can perform reliability without having to ice it down or go through any other histrionics before hitting the drag strip. The team at ECS drove the car about an hour to Atco. They immediately managed four mid 10 second passes within an hour with eventually getting the 10.22 time. The track conditions that day had a DA of 800 feet and a 70-degree ambient temperature. The point is the car drove to the track, ripped off 10 second runs and drove home. It might not hold the title of fastest C8 in the world. But there is something to be said for easy, reliable performance like this. A couple more tweaks and this will be a 9 second car.
