This 1964 Corvette convertible perfectly explains why restomods are so darn popular these days.
With the popularity of Corvette restomods arguably at an all-time high, those that build them are constantly working to improve their offerings, and as a result, we’ve seen some truly stunning builds in recent months. The attention to detail present on these machines is nothing short of jaw-dropping, though the same can also be said for their price tags. It’s unclear if that will also be the case with this 1964 Corvette convertible restomod up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, but it certainly has all the attributes to make bidders open up their wallets, that’s for sure.
Originally finished in Riverside Red, this 1964 Corvette convertible was recently refinished in Cool Gray Metallic, an appropriately-named hue for this particular build. The paint is quite simply stunning, accented nicely by a stinger hood with a black stripe, a black soft top, lots of chrome, and a rather attractive set of 18- and 20-inch Foose five-spoke wheels, which are wrapped with 245/45 and 275/35 Falken FK452 tires.
The interior has also received some upgrades in the form of reupholstered black leather bucket seats, red stitching, Classic Instruments gauges, power steering, Vintage Air air conditioning, power windows, a central clock, carbon-fiber trim, and an aftermarket steering wheel mounted to an Ididit tilt-adjustable steering column.
This C2 sits right on top of that set of staggered rolling stock thanks to a set of adjustable coilovers, which joins other modifications including tubular upper and lower control arms, a front sway bar, and brakes that consist of a Wilwood master cylinder, six-piston front calipers, four-piston rear calipers, and drilled and slotted rotors at all four corners.
Pop the hood, and you’ll find a modern powerplant, too – this time, GM’s LS7 V8, which is equipped with a host of upgrades including a Haltech stand-alone engine management system, a dry sump oiling system, a FAST adjustable fuel regulator and fuel rails, remote-mount ignition coils with MSD ignition wires, an ATI harmonic balancer, a performance intake manifold and throttle body, ceramic-coated long-tube headers, and an aluminum radiator with twin electric cooling fans. Power flows through a six-speed manual transmission back to a Currie 9-inch limited-slip rear end.
After a considerable overhaul, this 1964 Corvette restomod convertible certainly looks amazing, and we imagine that it drives just as well, which is a simple yet perfect explanation of why restomods are so incredibly popular these days.
