Chopped-Down C5 Corvette Is the Strangest Thing We’ve Seen Today
Would you pay $11k to bring home this incredibly strange, significantly shortened C5 Corvette?
We’ve seen our fair share of strange Corvettes over the years, whether they’re cars that folks have chopped up, added body parts from other cars to, or simply total Frankenstein creations that make us turn away in disgust. But one thing we haven’t seen – until now, that is – is a shortened C5 Corvette, a version of the sports car that for whatever reason has been chopped-down to a much smaller size. However, such a ride has now surfaced for sale at Facebook Marketplace, and it leaves us with more questions than answers.
It’s almost like someone tried to transform this C5 Corvette into a British sports car of some sort, a process that began up front by chopping off the bumper, which leaves exposed lighting and a slimmer unit underneath. That isn’t even the weirdest part, however, as the rear end is far stranger with a significantly shortened, custom tail. That end has also been fitted with a pair of round taillights, exhaust pipes that apparently double as a rear bumper, a pair of rubber bumperettes, and a tiny trunk opening.
As if that wasn’t enough, this rear end chop also necessitated the use of a rather upright piece of rear glass, which looks like something you’d find on a pickup. The whole thing rolls on a set of C6 Z06 wheels and tires, which look extra wide thanks to the missing bodywork. Viewed from virtually any angle, this C5 Corvette is easily one of the strangest things we’ve seen in some time, and it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a head-turner everywhere it goes – for better or worse.
It’s unclear why, exactly, anyone would do such a thing, even if C5s are rather cheap and easy to acquire these days. Most likely, the car was involved in some sort of accident, leaving the rear section in sad shape. Fixing it might have been a bit too expensive to justify, hence the custom bodywork, though the listing makes no mention of a salvage title or any previous accident.
Regardless of the reason and in spite of its inexpensive $11k asking price, we think the seller might have a hard time finding a taker in this case, however, because this thing is just too strange for most of us. But then again, that might also make it rather appealing to at least one person out there – maybe a YouTuber looking for easy clicks?
