Speeding C8 Corvette Driver

This C8 Corvette driver proved difficult to catch after driving more than double the speed limit for some time.

The C8 Corvette is undoubtedly fast in any form, including the base Stingray version, which is obviously why a lot of folks buy one in the first place. But that performance creates a bit of a problem for risk takers and inexperienced drivers, leading to quite a few wrecks over the past couple of years, as well as who knows how many traffic tickets. But one C8 Corvette driver in New Hampshire went a bit above and beyond when it comes to traffic violations recently when he was clocked doing 161 miles-per-hour on the interstate. In fact, the incident was so noteworthy that the New Hampshire State Police posted about it on Facebook.

The C8 Corvette driver – Alejandro Zapata-Rebello of Danbury, Connecticut – was cruising down Interstate 93 at those exorbitant speeds when he was clocked by a state trooper in Ashland, New Hampshire. The speed limit on this particular stretch of road is a mere 70 miles-per-hour, so as one might imagine, this peaked the interest of the nearby police, who proceeded to pursue the sports car.

The only problem with this plan is that the cop’s vehicle wasn’t able to keep up with the speedy Corvette, so dispatch issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for the C8. In the meantime, a number of other travelers called the police department complaining about the orange sports car – and a variety of other vehicles, it seems – all driving erratically and nearly causing multiple wrecks in the process.

Some time later, the Woodstock Police Department clocked the C8 going a more modest 130 miles-per-hour and were able to locate the car sitting in traffic, at which point the driver was arrested and charged with three counts of reckless driving and one count of disobeying an officer.

It’s a thankless end to a wild and irresponsible act that could have ended much worse for both the driver and his fellow citizens, but this particular incident isn’t at all surprising. After all, since the advent of fast cars, there have been folks who can’t resist wringing them out on public roads, and that trend isn’t likely to end anytime soon.
