Already quite pricey, the 2023 Corvette Z06 will cost a few thousand more thanks to its apparent inefficiency.

When GM announced the price of the 2023 Corvette Z06 a few weeks ago, it surprised quite a few folks that expected it to remain safely below the $100k mark – at least without options added. That wasn’t the case, however, as the C8 version of the Z06 has a rather high MSRP of $106,395, a shocking amount indeed, but also one that’s in line with the price increases of previous model year changeovers for the more track-oriented Corvette. However, that isn’t all the cash prospective owners must dish out for a 2023 Corvette Z06, as that car will also be slapped with a significant gas guzzler tax, according to Corvette Blogger.

Just how much one pays for this gas guzzler tax depends on how it’s optioned. The base car will feature an added cost of $2,600, while the addition of the T0F/T0G Carbon Fiber aero included in the Z07 Performance Package drives that cost up to an even $3,000. That clearly indicates that the added aero included in this particular option adds quite a bit of drag to the sports car, and as a result, worsens what will likely already be some pretty dismal fuel economy.

None of this is terribly surprising, given the fact that the C8 Z06 features the most powerful production naturally-aspirated V8 in automotive history – the 670 horsepower LT6. However, the EPA hasn’t yet published final fuel economy figures for the Z06, so we don’t know just how bad it is. In all fairness, any vehicle with combined rating of less than 22.5 miles-per-gallon is subject to the gas guzzler tax, so perhaps it won’t be that awful.

It also isn’t the first time a Corvette has been subjected to gas guzzler taxes, as the C6 ZR1 made the cut with its supercharged, 638 horsepower heart, followed by the C7 Z06 when equipped with the automatic transmission at launch, and the C7 ZR1, which was slapped with a $2,100 tax for its fuel consumption. Regardless, for a car that’s already quite pricey, any additional charge isn’t exactly good news.
