2023 Corvette Z06 Allocation Rollout is a Confusing Mess

Get ready to wait. Especially if you want aero. GM has, thus far, only sent out 315 allocations to dealerships for the 2023 Corvette Z06.

It goes without saying that there’s a long line of people waiting on their 2023 Corvette Z06, with many orders already being placed for the red-hot sports car. It’s also pretty obvious that GM won’t be able to fill all of those orders, given the sheer number of constraints and various other issues that have plagued C8 production for years. But now, Corvette Blogger is reporting that 2023 Corvette Z06 allocations, as of August 18, total just 315 units for the entire U.S. at the moment, which is a woefully low number.

Out of that paltry total, just 85 of the 2023 Corvette Z06 allocations are going to aero-equipped cars, which will obviously make those pricey toys far rarer when it’s all said and done. It’s also another point of frustration for prospective owners, as it seems as if most of them want the Z07 package, in spite of its cost. However, the way these allocations are being split among dealers is apparently head-scratching as well.

While previous reports suggested that 2023 Corvette Z06 allocations would be divvied up based on that dealer’s 3LT Stingray sales, at least four of the top 10 Corvette sellers in the nation apparently didn’t have any allocations for the Z06 at first, though that issue was later corrected. Meanwhile, at least one Corvette Forum member has reportedly discovered that a small town dealer got one allocation, even though they haven’t sold a single 3LT Stingray. Finally, around 15 allocations are reserved for Canada.

GM is reportedly using three allocation tiers to determine what dealers get allocations, as well as how many, with a formula that helps smaller dealers compete with larger ones in that regard. That may frustrate some, but at the same time, prove quite fruitful for dealers that operate in more rural parts of the country, giving them at least one flagship car to sell.

Regardless, this information still comes as a bit of a surprise, given the fact that most expected GM to build more Z06s for its very first model year. Ultimately, this is only going to make the already coveted track-focused Corvette even more desirable, and we can only imagine the sheer number of dollars that will get tossed around both at dealers and by those looking to flip their new Z06.
