Top Reason Why Each Corvette Generation Can Be Labeled as the Worst
We look back at every Corvette generation and identify the one fatal flaw that drags it down below the others.
We recently did a look back at each Corvette generation and named the top reason why each one could legitimately be called the best. Now it’s time to do the opposite. There is an argument to be made that any Corvette generation could also be labelled as the worst in history. Now put down the pitch forks and hold off on the nasty social media comments. We love the Corvette over here. Nobody thinks to themselves geez I really hate the Corvette, so I think I’ll make a living by writing for Corvette Forum. We all have a passion for the car and that is why we are here. And that means we love Corvettes from every generation. But even the staunchest Corvette supporter can recognize the fact that there have been some bumps in the road along the last 70 years.
Obviously, based on our previous list every generation has high points. But what is the Achilles’ heel for each? Every generation has a weak spot that we feel could drag it to the bottom of any Corvette generation ranking exercise. Will you agree with them all? Probably not. But that is part of the fun. We would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. So, head over to the Corvette Forum forums and let us know what you think of this list. Let’s get started.
C1 – Early Identity Crisis
It may seem hard to believe now but in 1953 and 1954 people didn’t really know what to make of the Corvette. Was it a sportscar or was it a relaxing highway cruiser? The ‘Blue Flame’ six cylinder engine mated to a two-speed automatic meant the Corvette leaned toward being the latter. Tepid performance and a high price made these early cars a tough sell for Chevrolet. In 1955 the small block V8 arrived, and the rest is history. While the early C1 Corvettes are sought after for their rarity and historic significance they are simply not very good sportscars when compared to the Corvettes from 1955 onwards.
