The BEST Corvette E-Ray Videos (So Far)
These must-watch videos give an in-depth look at the Corvette E-Ray’s styling, features, technology, and performance.
Yesterday our friends at GM unveiled the long-rumored 2024 Corvette E-Ray. The first hybrid Corvette. The first all-wheel-drive Corvette. And the quickest Corvette of all time to 60 mph and in the quarter mile.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray will go into production and be available later this calendar year with a combined peak power of 655 horses. That’s still 15 shy of the naturally aspirated, flat-plane-crank 2023 Corvette Z06 (typical Corvette pecking order). But the E-Ray has a LOT more torque. 135 ft.-lbs. to be exact. Which is one of the reasons the E-Ray will run the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds and to sixty in a GM-measured 2.5 seconds on all-season Michelin Pilot Sport tires! (The all-wheel drive helps as well.)
Quick Specs
- 495 hp LT2 V8 (rear motor)
- 160 hp electric motor (front motor)
- Standard carbon ceramic brakes
- 3,770 lbs (“dry weight” — only about 260 lbs more than the Stingray)
- Stealth Mode is an EV-only mode for driving short distances, up to 45mph
- Z06 wide-body styling
- $104,295 base MSRP for a 1LZ Coupe
First Impressions
We still have to drive it. But, thus far, the E-Ray is exceeding almost all of our expectations. It’s gorgeous. Fast. And GM made a lot of smart decisions. As Marques Brownlee says below, this might be the best day-to-day (ie, non-track) Corvette of all time given its mix of speed, luxury, and capability.
The only real downsides are pricing and questions about the battery life. First, the pricing is much closer in range to the Z06, although the E-Ray seems to top out at a much lower number since the E-Ray lacks higher-priced options like the Z07 package. Still, it’s very clear that, outside of the base Stingray, the Corvette has evolved away from the everyman sportscar. Make no mistake, the Z06 and E-Ray are still a bargain compared to the competition.
But in my humblest opinion, six-figure base pricing for these models changes things.
Also, and this is very much just a question, again courtesy of Mr. Brownlee, what’s the life expectancy of the E-Ray’s battery? Naturally, GM will be guaranteeing these parts during the warranty. But with such a small battery that’s bound to cycle frequently, will this system wear batteries quicker than other hybrids? Maybe, maybe not. It’s just something we’ll have to explore and consider over the next few years.
Still, for all the hate that electrification gets in the car enthusiast space, GM has delivered another stunning C8-generation Corvette. And the Corvette team isn’t even done yet.
Bring on the ZR1 and ZORA!
Although the E-Ray’s product launch was relatively low-key compared to the Stingray and Z06 media blitzes, Chevrolet invited several automotive journalists and influencers to tour the E-Ray ahead of the launch. At this time, no one outside of General Motors has actually driven the 655-horsepower beast. Still, the E-Ray’s performance bonafides are easily established by looking at the faces of passengers getting to feel its roller-coaster-eseque acceleration pulls in the below videos.
The other striking feature is that the E-Ray further demonstrates how well the Corvette engineers plan out entire generations in advance. Case in point, when the Stingray debuted, many were taken aback by the large structural division between the driver and passenger. GM said, and this is still true, that it was structural in nature. But the deeper, fuller truth is that this tunnel is where the engineers place the battery. It’s also amazing to see how little storage space was lost despite adding the front-mounted electric motor (it can probably be measured in cubic inches rather than feet).

Auto Focus
A smart overview and reaction from a very popular technology YouTuber who has been talking more and more about vehicles as manufacturers like Ford and Chevy add electrification to their fleets.
Emelia Hartford
The queen of C8 Corvettes appears to have gotten the best on-road ride-along with a dozen or so ripping j-turn donuts. Great sense of what it FEELS like to be in the new E-Ray.
The Straight Pipes
More exciting drifting, showing off how good the All-Season Michelins grip in the cold. But it’s also fascinating to see under the skin of the E-Ray, to see where the new electric motor, front axles, and batteries all fit.
Eddie X
Eddie is always great because he’s an enthusiast, a C8 Z06 owner, and a working automotive engineer. Really in-depth tour of what the Corvette team is calling an evolution of the grand touring machine.
Jerry Rig Everything
A nice short video from a YouTuber who spends more time in the electrified space than with sports cars. But it’s fun to see the E-Ray out in the snow.
Car and Driver
A lovely technical discussion about the new E-Ray (along with more driving impressions). Highlight to consider if you like tracking cars. Longer road courses may cause the E-Ray to suffer “battery depletion,” which C&D plans to test later this year. (It should, however, be capable of hanging out on shorter courses.)
