Corvette Z06 Track Review vs Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) & BMW M4 CSL (G82)

In this Corvette Z06 track review, the mighty Porsche 911 GT3 RS and BMW M4 CSL all do battle at Willow Springs!

If you’re an enthusiast who enjoys consuming content on YouTube, there’s no better channel now than Hagerty. Especially when the creator/host involved is Jason Cammisa. Along with his cinematographer/director partner Anthony Esposito and their creative team, Camissa’s relatively big-budget videos combine Hollywood-quality visuals with wry humor and encyclopedias of contextual information.

In other words, you learn tons about automotive history and engineering. And they’re hilarious.

Today’s video, an episode of Cammiss’a Lap Battle with Randy Pobst, is another stunner, and probably the best 2023 Corvette Zo6 track review thus far. The competition? A brand new 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the BMW M4 CSL.

The Lap Battle — What It Says About the Z06

Now, I’m not going to summarize nor spoil the video — you can watch it above — but here are a few reasons I hope every Corvette enthusiast watches: First, the video once again proves that the Z06 can hang out with vehicles that cost twice as much, or more, even when conditions are less than ideal. Yes, the Z06 is the most expensive Corvette ever made, but on the world stage, it’s still a bargain.

Second, always remember the importance of running great tires. The Z06 with the Z07 package is rocking a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Cup R tires, which are essentially street-legal track tires. You don’t want to drive them in the rain. Or in the cold (despite the conditions present when Cammisa and crew filmed this video). But when warmed properly and on track, and when coupled with the extra aero of the Z07 package, these tires allow the Z06 to grip in a way never seen before in a Corvette.

And lastly, like any fair review, this particular track attack showcases the cost of the Z06’s extra weight. It’s the portliest car of this bunch, which comes into play during the hardest braking. In other words, I hope GM is watching and dreaming up some future track edition Z06 that’s even lighter with more aero.
