Does the C8 Corvette Z06 Need Lambo Doors to Become a True Exotic?

C8 Z06 Vertical Doors aka Lambo Doors

The owner of this C8 Corvette Z06 installed the vertical doors not only for looks, but also for easier ingress and egress.

The C8 Corvette Z06 has – rightfully – earned plenty of praise since its debut, with people lauding its fantastic value, excellent handling, sweet-sounding, high-revving LT6 powerplant, and impressive performance that rivals far pricier exotic cars. However, some will argue that the new Z06 isn’t quite over-the-top enough to be called an exotic itself, with somewhat subdued styling and the lack of the theatre that makes things Lamborghinis so endearing to so many. Thus, Navy veteran, NASCAR racer, and C8 Z06 owner, and CorvetteForum member, Jesse Iwuji recently set out to rectify that issue by installing vertical doors – or Lambo doors, as they’re often called – on his own car.

Typically, Iwujii focuses on performance mods – not visual ones – as he routinely visits the track in his Z06 and actively races it. However, he not only wanted to make it a bit more exotic and befitting of the car’s performance chops, but he also enjoys the practicality of vertical doors, which make it a bit easier to get in and out of the low-slung sports car – not to mention the fact that they’re far easier to use in a crowded parking lot. As an added bonus, they look pretty darn cool, complementing the Forgedlite wheels Iwuji recently added, too.

In the video below, we get to tag along and watch these new vertical doors get installed on Iwuji’s C8 Z06, which is an interesting process to behold. However, as he points out, many of these kits are made cheaply, which can cause serious problems down the road. After all, nobody wants to tinker with their high-dollar sports car only to lean on the door and throw it out of alignment, possibly causing damage in the process.

That certainly isn’t the case here, as this kit proves to be quite robust. It’s also easy to see the practicality Lambo doors provide, as they don’t have to swing out very much before they lift vertically, ensuring that one can hop in or out, even in tight spaces. As for the look, well, Iwuji admits that some will love it and others will hate it, but it certainly begs the question – does the C8 Z06 need such an upgrade to be considered a true exotic, or is its impressive performance enough to classify it as such?
