Does It Bother You That YouTubers Are Getting Their C8 Z06 Before We Are?
Celebrities have long enjoyed privileges when it comes to getting new cars, but should YouTubers be skipping the line for the C8 Z06?
Over the past few years, a major trend has emerged in the automotive enthusiast world – the rise of the YouTuber. Folks have been starting their own channels and documenting their automotive related exploits more and more lately, offering up reviews of vehicles, showing us their builds, and in many cases, simply buying new cars before many of us can get our hands on them and then showing them off to the masses. The reasons behind this movement are simple – views equal money, and in some cases, these folks are making a lot of it. However, more than one Corvette Forum member is a bit peeved that some YouTubers are taking delivery of their C8 Z06 before the general public.
This practice is nothing new when it comes to celebrities, in and some cases, these YouTubers are legitimately famous. Heck, some of them hold gatherings where thousands of adoring fans show up, eager to meet their automotive heroes in person. Turns out, many members are understanding when it comes to this, as thus far, the poll posted in this thread notates that around 67 percent don’t have a problem with YouTubers taking delivery of their C8 Z06 before most of us do, though some members have already received their cars.
On the flip side, not everyone is pleased with the seemingly special privileges enjoyed by a few, including Austin Everett of the Speed Phenom channel. “I do think it is annoying because he just made a video about trying to get on an MSRP list after hundreds or even thousands of us were already on a list,” said ChevyChad. “It would have annoyed me less if he would have had to pay for that right to skip to the front of a line. But nope, he paid MSRP and got to skip everyone else. Many of which I am sure have been a Corvette fan/enthusiast for longer than he has even been alive. So yea, that is a slap in the face to all of us who have been patiently waiting and were on a list long before it was even announced. It is the principal of the matter.”
However, not everyone feels that way. “He’s the only C8-centric YouTuber who will actually track the car and promote the car for what it was actually designed to do,” said JockItch. “Perhaps GM saw more value in that than other more popular YouTubers…you can only rev the engine and giggle so much.”
Thus far, this thread has exploded with replies, and most of them make some great points on both sides of this argument. It’s a fascinating one for sure, and with the rise of the automotive YouTuber, figures to become more common moving forward.
