Corvette Loving Family Gets Tragic News After Long Journey to Acquire C8

C8 Corvette Story

This story of this Corvette loving pair is a reminder that life is precious and oftentimes, far too short.

Generally, the CorvetteForum forums are full of inspiring stories related to Corvettes and their owners – ones that give us warm and fuzzy feelings. These posts often tell tales of how members managed to acquire their dream car after years of wanting one, or perhaps even tracking down their parent’s old Corvette and bringing it back in the family. However, life certainly isn’t completely full of ups – sometimes, it can be downright cruel. And unfortunately for member JF in MI, he and his wife of 50 years recently received some truly terrible news after one of the more joyous moments in their lives.

“We had been Corvette owners in the past and, at the time, owned another C1,” he said. “In 2019, my wife of 47 years had been reading a lot about the C8. She then asked out of the blue if we could get one. I figured we ‘can’t take it ($) with us,’ so why not, but she would do all the research on who had an allocation and it would be ‘her C8’ and registered as such. We ordered one as a 2020 birthday present for her. Got booted out of the 2020 model year and had to re-order a 2021. 18 months later we took museum delivery of a 2LT Torch Red coupe (license plate ‘HER C8’). To my delight they treated her like royalty there and she also did the track experience with me.”

“She was so damn proud of that car and loved to talk to folks about it at the car shows we would attend. On our following 49th anniversary, I surprised her with the factory build book she did not know I ordered. We only drive it to car shows or other special occasions and once in a while she even lets me drive it so it doesn’t have a lot of miles. This past September we drove it to our golden anniversary party and shortly thereafter was put away for the winter.”

This is the type of story that we commonly see in the forums – one where a member fell in love with a particular Corvette, then went out of their way to bring it home. However, as this particularly story quickly reminds us – there’s much more to life than cars, and we should cherish what we have, while we have it.

“Two days before Christmas 2022 her present was a diagnosis with a brain tumor. Before they transported her to another hospital she pulled me close and said ‘no matter what happens, don’t let my brother or sister drive my car.’ Biopsy done on her 70th birthday. She has a couple of months, maybe weeks left. I will most likely keep it with her plate on it. Live and love while you can.”

It’s a gut-wrenching story, one that understandably had many other members in tears after reading it. But to us, this tragic tale is a reminder that life is precious, and oftentimes too short. As such, we should do everything we can to enjoy the limited time we have on this earth – whether that be by enjoying the cars we love, or by spending as much time as we can with our loved ones.
