GM President Mark Reuss says TWO new incredible sports cars are on the way. The next C8 Corvette variant and something else C8-based.

Even before the C8 Corvette debuted in 2019 for the 2020 model year, rumors of more powerful and capable variants were flying. Of course, this was to be expected, as America’s sports car has long been available in more than one guise throughout its illustrious history. The Z06 recently joined the lineup, giving customers two options in that regard along with the base Stingray, but others – such as the hybrid E-Ray, ZR1, a range-topping Zora model, and even an EV are reportedly in the works, but General Motors President Mark Reuss recently teased at least one, and perhaps two of them.

While speaking at the General Motors Investor Day presentation in New York City, Reuss said that two new sports cars are on the way, and he noted that one of them is the “next version of the C8,” a car that  “you won’t be able to imagine from a performance standpoint.” Perhaps even more interestingly, Reuss also said that another new model will ride on the C8’s architecture and will be an “incredible performance car,” one that’s poised to “set the standard of the world for performance for Chevrolet.”

Reuss didn’t specify whether or not that second model will wear the Corvette name or not, which makes it rather intriguing. Thus, we’re left to speculate – what, exactly, is he referring to in both cases? Could it be the next ZR1, which is rumored to be packing a twin-turbocharged version of the Z06’s LT6 V8 (perhaps the LT7) generating roughly 800 horsepower? Or is it the Zora and its rumored hybrid version of that same engine, which has been said to make over 1,000 horsepower?

As far as the Corvette-based model, well, the sky is the limit there. Perhaps it’s simply the Zora, a car that could send the internal combustion-powered version of the long-running model out with a bang as a proper halo model for the brand, or maybe it’s something else entirely that won’t even wear a Corvette badge. Either way, we’re certainly intrigued by this news, and you can bet that we’ll be watching closely as more rumors inevitably surface in the coming months.
