C8 Corvette Powered International Van

With a C8 Corvette LT2 V8 under its boxy body, this in-progress International van aims to be more than just a mobile food vessel.

At the moment, the C8 Corvette is still a fairly new product after having debuted for the 2020 model year, which means that we’ve yet to see many other models that have utilized its mid-mounted 6.2-liter LT2 powerplant. However, as more and more of these cars start showing up at salvage auctions and in scrapyards, that figures to change in a hurry. We’re already starting to see folks seek out the C8 Corvette for its powertrain, but we doubt that anyone will emulate the most recent such build that aims to do so – this wild 1952 International Metro van under construction by the folks at Luc’s Fajita Hut in New Jersey.

There are a number of reasons why the restaurant/bar would want to do such a thing, other than garnering a ton of press, which is obviously a nice benefit. The “Vettro,” as it’s otherwise known, will serve as a massive billboard for the business, as well as an actual, functioning food truck. Swapping a C8 Corvette powertrain into the big box will also make it quite a bit of fun to drive, but Luc’s is also aiming to touch base with the Guinness Book of World Records and earn the title of fastest food truck on earth.

The build is far from finished, as the Luc’s team recently finishing swapping the C8’s engine and transmission into the van, but there’s clearly far more work to be done before it can start slinging food to the general public. However, Luc’s recently commissioned artist Oscar Vargas to draw up the finished product, which is complete with loads of “patina,” a front splitter, a ground-hugging stance, fat fender flares, a gigantic rear wing, and C8 wheels.

Throw on some Luc’s logos and even a tribute to the late Ken Block, and the overall look of this vintage Corvette-powered van is quite cool, and obviously, it’s going to attract a ton of attention everywhere it goes. Those that want to enjoy a cold adult beverage with their on-the-go meal can also do so easily, as there’s a bar on the opposite site of the food window, with the LT2 mounted right in the center. Personally, we can’t wait to see how this unique project turns out, and we’ll certainly be interested to see if it can in fact claim the title of fastest food truck on earth when it’s all said and done.
