C7 Corvette Grenades Tire & Explodes Rear Fender (Idiot Doing Donuts)

Once again, an attempt to show off for the crowd becomes a total disaster as this C7 Corvette loses its tire and fender in dramatic fashion.

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of burnouts and donut attempts gone wrong, things that typically happen when people try to show off for a crowd, only to reveal that their driving skills aren’t quite up to the task of managing their powerful sports cars. Unfortunately, Corvette owners aren’t immune to this phenomenon, as we’ve seen more than a few wind up doing dumb things that were caught on camera, which wound up going viral and attracting the wrong kind of attention. Recently, that’s precisely what happened with a C7 Corvette owner that’s now been immortalized on the always-entertaining slice of Reddit known as Idiots in Cars.

In the short clip, we can clearly hear the crowd egging on the owner of the C7 Corvette, seemingly encouraging them to show off for the crowd. That’s usually when things go horribly wrong, and true to form, that’s precisely what happens here as well. However, before the action begins, it’s pretty clear that something is already amiss, as the rear passenger side wheel well liner is resting right on top of the tire, which for some reason the camera man doesn’t bother to point out.

Thus, the action proceeds as the driver rips off a burnout and then moves into a donut attempt, but once spun around, the well-worn tire resting under the detached liner explodes, sending pieces of rubber flying everywhere. Unfortunately, the damage wasn’t just limited to that easy-to-replace piece either – the entire fender has seemingly detached itself from the car in pieces as well, leaving a giant, expensive mess in its wake.

Taking a closer look at what’s happening here, it seems as if the rear tires were already worn down well past the point of replacement, meaning the the driver had likely been engaging in this sort of activity for a while prior to the video being shot. Perhaps they thought that the tire would simply give out and then they could replace it, but as many of us are painfully aware, things don’t usually end that peacefully. In this case, they most certainly did not, leading to a rather dramatic piece of footage that will live on eternally, thanks to one poor decision.
