Rescued from abandonment and treated to a one-year rebuild, this high-mile C6 Corvette ZR1 is now a certified ripper.

There was a time, not terribly long ago, when 100,000 miles was widely considered to be the breaking point for a vehicle, a milestone that meant you were looking at major repairs in the near future, or even total engine replacement. Times have certainly changed, and these days, we’ve got cars that are capable of traveling hundreds of thousands of miles with no major issues – in some cases, even a million. That isn’t just reserved for commuter cars, either, as the Corvette has proven to be quite reliable as well. We rarely see cars like this C6 Corvette ZR1 with a ton of miles on the clock, however – these are generally weekend toys – but as we can see in this video from ScrapLife Garage, 100k miles is nothing to be afraid of.

The owner of this C6 Corvette ZR1 bought it roughly one year ago and has spent that time modifying it with an eye toward making it a fun track toy. A high-mileage car that can be bought on the cheap, this makes a ton of sense, and nobody can knock him for “ruining” a valuable collector’s item, either. However, as he just got this ZR1 running, he wants to see what kind of power it’s making, so that calls for a trip to the dyno.

Though he’s somewhat worried that his high-mile build might blow up before it ever reaches the track, those fears quickly disappear when the car lays down an impressive 873 horsepower and and 788 pound-feet of torque on 93-octane pump gas, which is truly impressive. Thus, it’s time to put some E85 in the tank and see what this rig is truly capable of. That resulted in a cool 975 horsepower on the first run, but after some timing adjustments, the ZR1 lays down an incredible 1,022 horsepower on 22 pounds of boost, followed by a final run that sees it hit 1,048 ponies.

These are truly impressive figures for a car with 100k miles on the clock, but it’s also further proof that modern Corvettes are pretty dang reliable, if not bulletproof to an extent. There’s something to be said for the fact that GM has largely stuck with the simple small block V8 design it created decades ago, rather than trying to create something new and overly complicated, and its efforts truly paid off in this case.
