C6 Corvette Crashes Into Crowd

This rather eye-opening crash involving a C6 Corvette caps off a wild ‘legal pit’ event chock full of terrible choices.

While we can safely say that the vast majority of Corvette owners know how to drive their cars without crashing into things, as is the case with any sports or performance-oriented car, there are plenty of folks that simply don’t. We’ve seen plenty of examples of this over the years, with many videos documenting Corvette drivers crashing into everything from other cars to structures and even people. The latest comes to us from Florida (of course), where a C6 Corvette with California plates smashed into a crowd during “Florida’s largest Legal Pit” event last month. Purportedly it was a legal, sanctioned event with police on hand to ensure that things didn’t get out of hand. Clearly, that didn’t work.

This scene was captured on film by numerous people and posted to YouTube and Instagram from a variety of angles, as we can see here. There’s plenty of smoky, sideways action to soak in, all of which is taking place on a piece of pavement that’s been lined with a handful of tires, presumably to prevent cars from hitting the nearby crowd that has gathered to watch the extravaganza. Obviously, this is no motorsports-approved safely wall, however, as the tires are just stacked on top of each other with nothing to support them.

At first, things seem to be going quite well, with a variety of makes and models showing off for the crowd, in some cases with people hanging out of the passenger side window for added effect. Soon, a C6 Corvette — with what appears to be a California novelty license plate (“UFNWISH”) — joins the action. Bbut while the owner is sliding around, he loses control and smashes into the purported tire “barrier” and several people standing nearby.

The impact is pretty horrific, as one can see in these various pieces of footage, with two bystanders getting hit and then catapulted into the air, and one person going THROUGH the rear hatch glass. After which, all but a few bystanders begin filming and taunting rather than, I dunno, helping several of the people who appear to be injured.

We were unable to find any local news articles regarding the injured.

Regardless, the incident serves as yet another example of why these types of events can be downright dangerous, particularly when you just don’t know who’s behind the wheel.
