Apparent Road Rage Incident Ends with C8 Corvette Driver Getting a Ticket for Driving 149 MPH

149 mph ticket

The driver explains that he was frustrated with another motorist that cut him off so he raced up to 149 mph in anger.

The C8 Corvette Stingray has a claimed top speed of 194 mph. I-75 in Turtlecreek Township, Ohio at 9:30 at night is not the time or place to test that claim. However, Carscoops has reported that a C8 driver was nabbed going 149 mph on April 26 along a stretch of I-75. The good news is that no one was injured in this highly risky behavior. And it seems that the driver was not really trying to explore the top speed of his new Corvette. But instead, he was frustrated with another motorist that he claims repeatedly cut him off. He took out that frustration by putting all 495 horsepower from the LT2 V8 to work. And in the process endangered himself and everyone else around him.

Obviously, the C8 driver was not wise in driving 149 mph on the freeway. The posted limit was 65 mph, so he was traveling a healthy 84 mph over. Tough to justify that under any circumstance. However, there is some good here as well as some lessons to be learned. We all get caught up in our emotions sometimes. It is easy to sit in front of your phone reading this and think that you would never do something like this. But be honest, you have been pissed behind the wheel before and did something sketchy didn’t you? Hey, it happens. But let this video of the stop posted on the Carsoops YouTube channel offer some free advice.

Kudos Officer

Ohio State Highway Trooper Gideon Bayuo made the stop. Surely his adrenaline was pumping when giving chase to a car traveling at that speed. Like any traffic stop, he didn’t know what to expect. But even more so when stopping someone going more than double the posted limit. From what we see on the video he was calm and professional throughout the entire stop. He let the driver speak, and he generally seemed concerned for the welfare of not just others on the road but for the driver as well. He didn’t even write him up for reckless driving. The officer didn’t arrest him. He left it as just a speeding violation. Although at that speed the driver will need to appear in court. After issuing the ticket he suggested the driver just sit there for a few minutes and calm down before driving home. Well done officer.

OK, what he did was extremely dangerous. However, during the stop, he was fairly calm considering he was just shown a radar gun nailing him for driving 149 mph. He didn’t believe the speed at first but didn’t really put up a fight or argue or scream. He explained that he was frustrated and that this was a new car for him. It was his dream car. He was not used to the way it handles or accelerates. He even went so far as to say that he enrolled in the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School to learn how to properly drive his new Corvette. That is a solid idea for anyone. His behavior prior to the stop was not good. But he handled the stop about as well as you could expect anyone to in that situation.

Road Rage

149 mph ticket

We all get ticked off at other drivers sometimes. Perhaps, even more often when we are driving our pride and joy Corvette. But chasing people down and speeding up to 149 mph is never a good idea. On a closed course, the C8 can sit at that speed all day long. But on a highway at night other motorists are not expecting a car to be traveling that quickly. To say nothing of the fact that what do you know about that other driver? Are they armed? Is it worth being shot over? Take a breath and just go home and tell everyone about the total a-hole you saw on the road on the way home. The beauty of that is you will be able to see your family at the end of the night. Driving that fast while arguing with another driver could result in a very different outcome.
