The Corvette options list is fairly extensive already. However, there are some key omissions that competitors already offer.
The C8 Corvette is a stunning car in Stingray, Z06 or E-Ray trim. And, despite going upmarket versus previous generations, its performance metrics surpass many more expensive vehicles. Yet, compared to its (more expensive) competition, the C8 Corvette options list is lacking in a few key driver-focused areas.
So we decided to look around at a few C8 competitors and brainstorm what hypothetical Corvette options might appeal to a hardcore driver who wants a more raw sportscar experience. (Obviously, a manual would be at the top of such a list, but GM is on record as saying that ship has sailed, so, sorry.) Some will cater to those who prefer a more comfort and luxury-oriented ride. And some are just plain indulgences that have no real effect on how the car performs, but they are fun.
Which one of these eight would you spec for your Corvette?
1. Lightweight Package
The C8 Corvette put on some weight compared to the C7 generation. And while the C8 has fantastic performance as it is. Reducing the weight of the car will improve handling, acceleration and braking. It would be nice to see a lightweight package added to the Corvette options list. The package could include thinner glass, less sound-deadening material, and a lightweight exhaust. Maybe even a radio delete to shed more pounds. As dynamic as the C8 already is, imagine one with 100 fewer pounds to lug around. Combined with the additional engine and exhaust sounds that would be gained, the lightweight C8 would be special.
2. Carbon Fiber Race Seats
These could also be part of the Lightweight Package, but not only would these save weight they would offer better support while on the track. Folks are often surprised when they ask me for advice on a modification to their car that would help them go faster on the track and I tell them seats. Most expect me to say more power or bigger brakes. But being held firmly in place around the track will really help you get around quicker. The optional competition sport bucket seats already offered aren’t bad. But other manufacturers such as McLaren and Porsche offer chairs that are closer to an actual race seat. A car like the Z06 deserves them too.
