Some 2023 Corvette Z06 owners are reportedly hearing ticking noises coming from their LT6 engines, which has prompted GM to get involved.

The brand new LT6 powerplant present in the 2023 Corvette Z06 is nothing short of a revelation, a true marvel of engineering that utilizes the best in old school engineering along with plenty of new tech to boot. Thus far, we’ve learned all about how the LT6 was designed and what it’s capable of, all of which is truly impressive stuff. However, aside from a couple of isolated engine failures, we’re now learning that the new flat-plane crank V8 could have another potential issue – a ticking noise, which has conjured up quite the conversation right here in the CorvetteForum forums.

A handful of 2023 Corvette Z06 owners are reporting that their LT6 powerplants are emitting a ticking noise that’s coming from the top end of the engine, though there are no other symptoms that accompany this noise. While some immediately dismissed this as injector noise, it seems as if the ticking is coming from the valvetrain, which could obviously be something that would concern owners. Turns out, it caught GM’s attention as well, prompting it to release a Preliminary Information Bulletin complete with a sound clip documenting the LT6’s ticking noise, which can also be heard in the video below.

“At this time the concern is under engineering investigation,” the bulletin reads. “Once a repair has been established, this PI will be updated or changed to a bulletin. No durability issues have been identified with this concern and customer can drive the vehicle until a repair is available. If the noise has been determined not to be the same as what is in the attached sound recording, please review the latest version of PIP5869 for a list of serviceable components in conjunction with following SI diagnostics.”

It’s obviously concerning – particularly for 2023 Corvette Z06 owners themselves – that GM is officially looking into this matter, but as of now, there’s no indication that the ticking noise is the sign of a defect. That could obviously change, but the automaker could also determine that the noise is completely normal, and as of now, it doesn’t appear to be something that’s causing any actual damage to the engine’s internals. Regardless, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this situation.
