2023 Corvette Z06 Becomes First to Run 9-Second Quarter-Mile
It took just a few weeks for Will Farmer to beat his own record behind the wheel of his 2023 Corvette Z06.
Inevitably, every time a new performance-focused vehicles launches, people race to see just how quick they can get it to go down the quarter-mile at the drag strip. This process has happened time an time again throughout history, and we’re currently in the midst of seeing just what the 2023 Corvette Z06 can do in a straight line, too. There are a few owners out there chasing history, including Will Farmer, who has plenty of low 10-second passes under his belt with both stock tires and drag radials fitted to his own 2023 Corvette Z06. Thus, we were expecting that eventually, someone would break into the nines, and that’s precisely what just happened.
It’s been just a few weeks since Farmer set two new world records in his 2023 Corvette Z06 by running a 10.16-second quarter-mile at 135 mph on drag radials, as well as a 10.26 at 134 mph on the stock Michelins. However, he didn’t waste any time heading back to the track to give it another go recently, with some pretty incredible results.
As we can see in this new video from 377ndacut, Farmer managed to break his own record while also becoming the very first C8 Z06 in the nines with a stellar pass of 9.98 seconds at 135 mph, which is truly impressive for a car that’s made more to carve up corners than outrun muscular cars at the drag strip. As one might imagine, however, Farmer isn’t running stock tires on this pass either, but rather, a set of sticky slicks to help it hook – after all, many have discovered that finding traction off the line is a problem in this car.
So yes, it takes a sticky tire and a well-prepped surface to get the new Z06 into the nine-second range, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of, because it’s also the case with lots of other cars. For a vehicle that has the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 in production car history, that’s pretty excusable, too. Now, the only question left to ask is – can Farmer top himself yet again and shave a tenth of two off this time? We’ll just have to wait and see, but we certainly aren’t counting him out at this point.
