Video shows takeover participants in LA pouring gasoline into a burning C7 Corvette and jumping on the hood in the middle of city streets.

Without incriminating anyone, it’s safe to say that certain folks here at CorvetteForum have spent some time doing questionable things in cars, we’ll say, not necessarily in the vicinity of a race track. We get it, you’ve got a fun car and you want to drive it the fun way. However, the takeover scene throughout the nation is progressively getting wilder. It didn’t start great, to be fair. We’ve all seen the videos of folks taking brutal hits from cars with talentless drivers doing out-of-control donuts. However, it seems that things are turning more toward just general destruction.

In a series of videos posted on the ShotbyCompton Instagram account, we see a handful of people contributing to the destruction of a C7 Corvette. The footage starts with the roof removed and the interior already burning. Participants of the takeover then proceed to pour gasoline onto the fire, throw traffic cones into it, and jump on the hood.

Smile, You’re on Camera

This is an interesting choice, to be sure. In a world where virtually every single person in this country has a phone in their pocket that produces crystal-clear and evidence-ready footage, you’d think one might hesitate to blatantly commit a crime in front of one. Apparently, that’s not the case. Even when almost every single person around said individual has those phones out and recording. It’s pretty hard to argue your presence or deny your participation when there are 100 different angles of the situation. We all make dumb decisions from time to time, but this particular one seems pretty obvious.

You might be curious as to who would let someone do this to their Corvette. The answer, quite obviously, is nobody. Though we don’t have any official confirmation, it’s safe to assume that this car is stolen. The concept of cars getting stolen, joy-ridden, and burned is certainly not a new one. Doing it in the public eye with a smile on your face, however. That’s a new one!

Burn Your Tires, Not Someone Else’s Car

Sure, we could take this last bit to grandstand about how takeovers are idiotic and need to be stopped. There’s not much we can say that hasn’t been said, though. Covering this story and writing this article isn’t going to bring this type of stuff to an end. A quick glance at the comments on these clips and everything else on the Instagram account shows that, in general, the car communitiy is against the concept of takeovers. All we can do is hope this fad dies out.

Maybe when it does some of the folks behind the wheel of these cars will learn some actual car control. Maybe someday they’ll even be able to drift on an actual course with a little finesse. Considering most of them can’t even do a donut without enough consistency to keep their car out of the crowd around them, hopes aren’t too high for that outcome. As for the folks standing there and getting hit, well, we’re not expecting them to be the next big thinker, either.
