Salvaged C4 Corvette Rebuild

Listed as a totaled, flood-damaged car, this C4 Corvette turned out to be one heck of a diamond in the rough.

Time and time again, we’ve watched various YouTubers buy cars at salvage auctions, albeit with mixed results. While there are occasional diamonds in the rough, for the most part, these cars are in a scrapyard for a reason – they’ve either been wrecked, misused, flooded, or have even caught on fire, making the rejuvenation process expensive, time consuming, and often, not worth either one’s time nor their money. However, while YouTuber Samcrac has bought his fair share of serious lemons over the years, his most recent purchase – a salvaged C4 Corvette – isn’t one of them.

Samcrac purchased this C4 Corvette sight unseen from a salvage auction, which is always risky business, and it makes one wonder – why would he do such a thing? Well, he only had to pay pennies to bring it home, that’s why, which made it seemingly worth the gamble, even if the listing stated that it was a non-running, total write-off with extensive flood damage. These cars are so cheap that one doesn’t really stand to lose much, even if the listing wound up being accurate in this case.

Right off the bat, Samcrac pulls the dipstick and receives some good news – there’s no water in the oil, nor is it low, which is also the case with the transmission fluid. However, even more surprisingly, the interior is in fantastic shape, doesn’t smell moldy like a typical flood car, and the carpet is even quite clean. Once he jumps the battery, the C4 comes to life, revealing that it has only 4,510 miles on the clock, and after a little tinkering, the engine cranks right up.

Samcrac proceeds to pull the fuel pump (an incredibly easy job, it’s worth noting) and peek inside the fuel tank, where he notices that the sender assembly appears to be shot. Rather than spending roughly $400 to replace all of that, our host goes to the trouble of simply rebuilding the one he has, which works out quite nicely.

In the end, Samcrac has an incredibly nice, low-mile, C4 Corvette for pennies, thanks to a little bit of elbow grease and a lot of luck. While it’s been seemingly parked outside for most of its life – causing some corrosion and dry-rotted tires – this is still an incredibly nice car that, while it may not be some sort of pricey collectible, is going to make someone a really fun driver for pennies on the dollar.
