Mecum Kissimmee to Feature One of the Most Amazing C2 Corvette Lineups Ever
This incredible C2 Corvette lineup at Mecum Kissimmee will feature two GM styling cars and every split-window color available in 1963.
Though it’s always been a favorite among enthusiasts, over the years, the C2 Corvette has also become arguably the most popular generation among collectors, too. As such, we’ve seen more than our fair share of rare, finely restored, historic, and modified C2s, many of them raking in big money at auction. Mecum’s upcoming Kissimmee, Florida sale – set to take place January 2-14, 2024 – is no exception, and in fact, may be one of the more historic and notable gatherings of C2 Corvette models ever.
In fact, it’s been quite some time before not just one, but two GM styling C2 Corvettes were offered for sale at the same time, but that’s precisely the case with the latest installment of Mecum Kissimmee, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. And, if that isn’t enough, Mecum is also featuring a very special collection of 1963 coupes that might just represent a first in that regard, too. Here’s a closer look at those particular lots.
1963 Chevrolet Corvette Harley Earl Styling Car
First up, we have a very special 1963 Corvette that was gifted by GM to then-Styling Department Chief Harley J. Earl as a retirement present, and needless to say, one of the most influential automotive designers in history enjoyed that present. Earl drove this particular C2 quite a bit over the years, even using it to complete parade laps at the 1965 Daytona 500. The Metallic Blue beauty is one of just four fitted with side pipes not utilized in a production car, and following an extensive restoration in the 1980s, even landed in the Bloomington Gold Great Hall in 2011.
1964 Chevrolet Corvette Bill Mitchell Styling Car
Next up, we have yet another special C2 Corvette styling car – this 1964 model, which was built especially for GM Styling head Bill Mitchell to tool around in. Yet another icon in GM’s design department – not to mention one of the greatest designers in automotive history himself – Mitchell’s Bright blue C2 Corvette doesn’t bear the same type of special features as Earl’s retirement present, but it is a beautiful example with a notable ownership history that also spent some time in the Bob McDorman Collection.
The Split Window Colorama Collection
Finally, we have not just one car, but an entire collection – and it’s a special one, at that. The Split Window Colorama Collection lives up to its name by offering up perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a 1963 Corvette coupe in every single color offered in that particular model year. Of course, these seven cars are being sold as separate lots, but with the means, one could presumably take home this entire bunch and instantly own one of the coolest Corvette collections on the planet.
