Man Released from Jail… Steals a C8 Corvette Transport Truck ‘To Get Home’
The recently released prisoner told police that he didn’t care about the 10 new Corvettes, he just “needed a truck to get home.”
Well, it sure beats the prison bus. But stealing a truck full of new Corvettes worth an estimated $1.25 million is probably not the smartest idea. Isaiah Walker, 23, of Lawton Oklahoma was recently released from prison and was looking for a way to get home. He arrived at the Willcox Loves Truck Stop in Willcox, AZ when he spotted his perfect ride. It was a car carrier truck that had ten new Corvettes loaded on top. According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department, Walker started a conversation with the truck driver and gained his confidence. But once the driver attempted to get into the cab of the truck Walker grabbed him and threw him to the ground.
At that point Walker got into the cab of the truck and locked the doors. He then drove the truck out of the parking lot with ten new Corvettes along for the ride. “A deputy from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department located the stolen vehicle near Fort Grant Road and Browns Market where the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which failed to yield to the deputy’s emergency lights and sirens.” The stolen truck then began driving recklessly and forced other vehicles to leave the roadway. Thankfully Walker eventually pulled down a road and stopped the truck.
The Arrest
Walker was taken into custody, read his Miranda Rights, and questioned. Walker told the police that he did not care about the new Corvettes that were worth over a million dollars. He just, “needed a truck to get home as he had just been released from prison.” They say that criminals are often not the sharpest tools in the shed, and this robbery seems to prove that theory. Walker was booked into the Cochise County Jail for multiple felony charges including robbery, 11 counts of theft of means of transportation, and felony theft. Given this new host of felony charges it will probably be a while before Walker is looking for a ride home again. However, when it does come time, he might want to call a friend to pick him up.
The Corvettes
Thankfully nobody was injured during this robbery. And we are happy to learn that no Corvettes were harmed in the making of this news story. Chief Hadfield stated, “The stolen vehicle was safely recovered without damage and was released to the driver so he could continue his delivery. Again, I thank the officer and deputy who were involved in this investigation for keeping our citizens safe.” The future owners of these Corvettes were likely waiting quite a long time to take delivery of their new car. Especially if there were any Z06 Corvettes on board. These folks probably have no idea how close they were to having to start the buying process all over again.
