Is the C8 Corvette Z06 Really Worth $70K More Than the C7 Z06?

One C7 Z06 owner is facing a tough decision of whether to keep his car or trade it – and a lot of money – for a new C8 Corvette Z06.

It goes without saying that the C8 Corvette is a completely different animal than its predecessor – the C7 – and every Corvette that preceded it, honestly. In fact, the C8 arguably represents the largest shift in philosophy of any Corvette generation, largely thanks to its switch to a mid-engine format and some truly dramatic styling updates. However, all of these changes come at a price, particularly when we compare something like a used C7 Z06 to a brand new C8 Corvette Z06 – and that’s precisely what prompted CorvetteForum member Gullwaydad to head to the forums recently and ask – is it really worth, say, spending an extra $70k to upgrade to the newer model?

“Looking for your thoughts – I currently have a 2019 Level 2; C7 Z06 Z07 A8 with 33,000 miles with about ten track days, a daily driver purchased new, no problems and love it,” he said. “I suspect I will get a call this winter from a big dealer for a MY24 and I am considering a similar spec to my C7. I estimate it will cost about $70k or more to upgrade, and my question is – do you folks think it is worth it? What would you do? Keep the C7 or upgrade?”

As one would imagine, this is a bit too much money to make the switch to a C8 Corvette Z06 justifiable in the minds of more than a few members. However, there are also several that think the perceived quantum leap between the two more than justifies the rather large gap in price between the two as well.

“To me, the C8 Corvette Z06 is a revolutionary leap forward,” said AVETTE. “670 horsepower from a 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8, are you kidding me? FPC race engine? DCT? Took it to VIR and mine is a non-Z07 on PS4S tires and I couldn’t believe what it could do. MUCH much easier to drive near the limit IMO. Drives like a smaller car. This one will change the way exotics do business…first time that has ever been true. Having said all that…you do you, drive what makes you happy.”

Regardless, the C7 Z06 certainly still has its fair share of fans. “Both cars are phenomenal,” said Z0HS1CK. “Both beasts in their own right. You definitely appreciate the C7Z more after owning the C8Z, however. Since getting the C8Z, I always reached for that key when it was time to go for a joy ride.”

“I agree with the mention of the C7Z,” added Dashracing. “When my allocation came up for the C8Z, I pulled the build sheet from my C7 and checked all the same boxes. Both cars are spec’d identical. Here’s the thing with me…if driving the C8 first, I always have to get the C7 out to feel that manual. If I drive the C7 first, I don’t always have to drive the C8. You’re right about both being amazing at what they do…but they are two totally different cars.”

Of course, there are quite a few members that suggest simply owning both, but that isn’t financially feasible for everyone.
