A steady ramp up has turned into a flood of C8 Corvette production as GM extends and adds shifts at Bowling Green.
It doesn’t seem like terribly long ago that we were constantly talking about the mile-long wait list for a C8 Corvette, endless supply chain constraints, and massive markups being applied to the mid-engine machine. Things have certainly changed over recent history, of course, and C8 Corvette inventory has vastly improved – pushing prices down to the point where, in some cases, one can even get a new one at less than MSRP. At the same time, it seems that GM has been extra busy ramping up its production efforts at Bowling Green, according to new data acquired by the folks at Corvette Blogger.
With the Bowling Green plant adding 10 hour shifts recently – and even a Saturday shift thrown in for good measure – it’s clear that GM is finally able to take advantage of a stronger parts supply and otherwise solid conditions to simply build more Corvettes. In fact, C8 Corvette production reached 228 total units on Friday, January 26, which was just enough to beat the plant’s personal record of 225 from September 2023, but that was only the beginning.
Once the next week rolled around, things ramped up even further, as GM built a grand total of 194 Stingray models and 67 Z06 Corvettes, which totaled 261 units – smashing the record it had just set a few days prior by a massive margin. Tuesday was nearly as productive, as 194 Stingrays and 66 Z06s emerged from the assembly line just one day later, which nearly matched Monday’s cumulative total at 260 units.
For the week, GM produced a whopping 761 C8 Corvette Stingray models, along with 236 Z06 Corvettes and even 23 E-Rays – making for a pretty massive output of 1,947 Corvettes in total. However, Corvette Blogger reports that no E-Rays have yet been delivered to customers, and no more units were built following the nearly two dozen hybrids that were completed last week.
Regardless, this is all good news for 2024 Corvette production in general, which continues to surge with an eye toward setting more records by the time it wraps up. Thus far, total 2024 Corvette production stands at 11,676 Stingrays, 3,250 Z06s, and 48 E-Rays, and that’s just the beginning. This is obviously great news for a lot of folks – save for those looking to flip one of these cars – and means that we’ll only be seeing more and more C8s on the road over the coming months.
