GM is still having trouble getting enough carbon fiber parts to build Z07 package-equipped 2024 Corvette Z06 models.
As expected, the new-for-2023 C8 Corvette Z06 launched to great fanfare and tremendous demand, which quickly outstripped supply by a large margin. Even though GM has significantly ramped up production of its track-focused model, it’s still difficult to obtain (at least sans dealer markup or with a premium on the used market), and that’s particularly true if you tick the right options boxes as well. The Z07 Performance Package, for example, has been heavily constrained since the get-go, and that looks likely to continue with 2024 Corvette Z06 production, too.
Recently, CorvetteForum member Synergy received some information from their dealership including a list of constraints for the 2024 Corvette Z06, as well as a message that reads “I just ran the national constraints report, and it shows the high wing spoilers (part of the aero package that you have to get to order a Z07) fully constrained for the duration of the model year.” This led them to believe that there would be zero Z07 package availability for the 2024 model year, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, according to Ken Fichtner, General Manager of Laurel Chevrolet in Montana.
“In my opinion only – Visible and Carbon Flash Painted Ground Effects are presently constrained to 0%,” Fichtner said. “These options will remain constrained for the entire model year as indicated in the report. The report does not say that the percentage will remain at zero for the entire model year. The point to this report is to notify dealers of options that will be difficult to order and for a specific time period. Summary – in my opinion, the ground effects will remain constrained for the entire model year but not at 0% for the entire model year. As a result, Z07 orders will be more rare than during the 2024 model year. Again in my opinion, these options have not been canceled. For those of us who have been waiting for what seems an eternity, when we receive our Z07s, they will be pretty rare and desirable and more likely to hold their value more than a non-Z07. Again, just my opinion.”
For now at least, it certainly seems like this is the case, and it really comes as no surprise. After all, the Z07 package is a pretty desirable option, and it’s one that features components that have faced supply constraints since day one. At the moment, GM is still dealing with this problem with 2024 Corvette Z06 production – especially in regard to carbon fiber components coming from third parties, which is precisely why there are a large number of unfinished cars sitting around awaiting the arrival of those parts, as CorvetteBlogger discovered a few weeks ago.
