2024 Corvette Restraints, Strike Update, & E-Ray Delay (UPDATED)

2024 Corvette restraints

With production roughly a month away, here’s the latest about 2024 Corvette restraints and delays & strike news.

It may seem hard to believe, but the C8 Corvette is entering its fifth year of production, and yet, the mid-engine bargain supercar remains a bit scarce. Things have improved as supply chain constraints eased over the past six months or so, but the 2024 Corvette is still straddled with some constraints, as YouTuber and salesman Rick Contirecently covered. Today Conti’s back again with the latest round of info regarding 2024 Corvette restraints, a very slight update on the potential for a UAW strike, and news about when we might see the E-Ray hit the assembly line.

First up, let’s talk 2024 Corvette restraints. There’s some good news and bad news here worth lulling over. For starters, there are no constraints on non-Z51 versus Z51 package cars, which is great news. However, the 2024 Corvette Stingray is facing some other types of constraints, which could delay production of cars ordered with these features, and are only available on a certain percentage of total production, as outlined here. Here’s how things currently break down (as of August 17) —

Will a UAW Strike Shut Down Corvette Production?

C8 Corvette Production Bowling Green

At this point, it’s not clear. The UAW is making some serious demands and things could change very quickly. But here’s the latest. In the video which you can watch below, Conti a text he received from “a GM employee” that says a strike authorization vote will be held on August 21. Starting August 24, the union will be practicing the picket line. The current contract expires at midnight on September 14.

Corvette E-Ray

Meanwhile, 2024 Corvette production is scheduled to kick off at the Bowling Green plant on September 11, however, that only applies to the Stingray and Z06. The new E-Ray has been pushed back to October 23, which means those waiting on the first-ever hybrid Corvette will have to be a bit more patient.

Worth noting that E-Ray customers will have to sign the same retention program paperwork as Z06 buyers – meaning that flipping the car before the six-month ownership mark could void the car’s warranty. However, Conti claims that this doesn’t affect the E-Ray’s battery warranty, nor does it affect things like recalls. Also for 2024, GM will not be handing out the 500K rewards points (worth $5,000) to Z06 and E-Ray owners who keep their vehicles past the six-month mark.

Lastly, as a reminder, all three of these models have their own allocation groupings, which are determined via a number of mysterious factors by GM itself. Stay tuned for more as everything changes, as Conti says, in real time.
